Horticulture Haven
A downloadable game for Windows
Horticulture Haven is a mental health game created during the Health Game Jam 2021 in Germany.
It depicts the process of breaking out of depression and similar dark mindsets: the progress is slow initially, but consistently it gets easier to advance, opening up new opportunities. Bit by bit the protagonist breaks out of their shell, turning their own mind into a place to feel well again.
In-game this is portrayed through acquiring more possibilities to decorate the environment as well as progressively gaining more energy, space, and light pushing back the darkness around. The changing inner thoughts of the protagonist are displayed as the player progresses.
The game combines clicker with sandbox game elements. As the player has to select which items to acquire and how to place them, it makes them shape their environment, portraying one's own mentality.
